If a driver was at fault for hitting you on your e-bike, you can usually claim for your injuries, your e-bike and your financial losses. Evidence like dashcam or helmet-cam footage and witness details helps prove fault. High-value e-bikes and batteries are often written off after a collision. We are not solicitors; we connect you, free and with no obligation, to a regulated specialist.

Can I claim if a car hit me on my e-bike?

Yes, in most cases. If a driver caused the collision and you were injured, you can typically make a claim against them, just as any cyclist could. A road-legal e-bike gives you the same rights on the road as an ordinary pedal cycle.

A claim can usually cover your injuries and the effect on your life, along with financial losses such as lost earnings, treatment costs and the damage to your e-bike and equipment. A specialist can look at what happened and explain what you may be able to recover.

How do I prove the driver was at fault?

Proving fault is about showing the driver did something careless that caused the collision, such as pulling out without looking, overtaking too closely, or failing to give way. The clearer the picture of what happened, the stronger your position.

You do not have to work all this out yourself. A regulated specialist can gather and assess the evidence, deal with the driver's insurer, and build the case. Your job is mainly to keep hold of anything useful and to get advice early.

What evidence helps my e-bike claim?

Footage is often the most powerful evidence. Dashcam or helmet-cam recordings can show exactly how the collision happened. If you or a nearby vehicle captured the incident, keep that footage safe and do not overwrite it.

Beyond footage, note the driver's details and vehicle registration, take photos of the scene and your injuries, and get the names and contact details of any witnesses. A police reference number, if the incident was reported, is also useful. All of this can help a specialist establish fault.

What if my e-bike or battery was written off?

E-bikes can be expensive, and a serious collision can damage the frame, electronics or battery beyond economical repair. Where the machine is written off, a claim can typically include the cost of replacing it, along with damaged kit such as your helmet, lights and clothing.

The battery is often one of the costliest parts and may need replacing even where damage is not obvious. Keep the damaged bike and parts if you can, along with receipts and photos, as these help a specialist put a fair value on what you are claiming.

What if the driver did not stop or was uninsured?

If the driver failed to stop, could not be traced, or turns out to be uninsured, you may still be able to claim. Claims involving untraced or uninsured drivers can be pursued through the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB), which exists for exactly these situations.

These claims have their own process, so specialist help is valuable. We can connect you, free and with no obligation, to a regulated firm that handles them. Many injury claims run on a no-win-no-fee basis under a Conditional Fee Agreement, and there is generally a 3-year time limit, so early advice helps.
